Google yesterday launched Lively, a browser based virtual world. Back in January we did a post predicting Google's next move using Hitwise clickstream data. At that time, we predicted Google Health and a Google metaverse or virtual world. Google Health launched in May and with Lively launched, it's time to turn once again to the data to find out what is next...
We made our prediction based on analysis of Google.com's clickstream traffic. Our thinking was that Google might want to fill natural gaps in its portfolio of offerings based on the interests of its users. We looked at which categories are receiving the most traffic from Google in which Google does not have its own property. Entertainment - Games and Health and Medical topped the list.
Here's an update of that table with June 2008 data and expanded from 15 categories to 20.

So what's next? The data suggests Google Autos and Google Music? (I am not sure we'll see Google Government just yet!)
I will follow this post up with an entry on visits to the top 20 Google properties to put the importance of search to Google's business in context.

Just after the opening ceremonies, on 10th August 2008, traffic to Sports websites reached their second highest peak of the year. The most popular Olympics destination online last week was Yahoo! Olympics followed by NBCOlympics.com. It seems that most consumers were lured to Olympics content from portals rather than searching for it directly.

Actually, you could argue Google does have a Google Government. See http://www.google.com/unclesam.
