Obama Beats Clinton in Iowa and New Hampshire Online

On this the eve of the Iowa caucus, I took a look at Hitwise data on the performance of the websites of the presidential hopefuls in Iowa and New Hampshire and found that Barack Obama is cleaning up in both of these early battleground states.

The following table shows the ranking of the candidate websites within the Lifestyle - Politics category in Iowa and New Hampshire based on volume of traffic from each state. I've included all candidates that show up among the top 100 Politics websites based on traffic from each state in the past four weeks.

As you can see Barack Obama comes out ahead of all other presidential hopefuls, including rival Hillary Clinton. In the past four weeks, Obama received 31% more visits from Internet users in Iowa than Clinton and 18% more in New Hampshire. Both leading Democrats beat out Republican candidates.

Among all US Internet users, the picture is very different. Ron Paul is way out in the lead, followed by Mike Huckabee. The following chart shows the market share of all US Internet visits to websites for presidential hopefuls.

Thanks for the info Heather. We'll have to keep this in mind as voters make their choices known state by state.
