Google Health - Predicting Google's Next Move

January 29, 2008

Will it be health, travel or a metaverse ala Second Life? Predicting Google's next move is always tricky. Last week, Tony Ruscoe & Philipp Lenssen at Google Blogoscoped pointed to a Google Health Login Page, which looks certain to launch soon. I like to periodically look at Google's clickstream data for hints as to what might be next. Looking at the categories the search giant sends traffic to in which it doesn't have its own property seems a a good indicator for what might be next.

This first table lists the top 15 categories visited after Google.com, based on US Internet visits in December 2007.

This next table shows these top fifteen categories against a list of Google properties in each category. For example, in Shopping & Classifieds there's Google Product Search (Froogle) and Google Base and in Social Networking and Forums there's Orkut, YouTube, Google Groups and Google Talk.

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious but Entertainment - Games and Health are the top two categories downstream from Google that contain no Google properties. Could a Google metaverse ala Second Life and Google Health be in the making?

Later this week I'll post a breakdown of traffic to the various Google domains putting the importance of the Google search engine into context. Stay tuned...

A nice alternative to google health is www.keyose.com ... they dont ask you for any personal information so privacity is totally guaranteed.

http://www.keyose.com/

They have found a very smart way to achieve that privacy goal.
