According to Hitwise UK, searches for ‘amir khan’ have increased over the last week, ending 13/09/08, by 235%. This makes searches for Amir Khan the highest ever since September 2005. This increase was due to the recent fight on the 6th September against Colombian boxer Breidis Prescott, who actually defeated the previously undefeated British boxer. 12% of searches for Amir Khan have been sending traffic to YouTube, which shows that a lot of people searching for him have been interested in watching the 54 second knock out fight.

Topping the list is US swimmer 'michael phelps', who is generating alot of interest as he attempts to win 8 gold medals in Beijing. Recent data from Hitwise UK shows that searches for 'rafael nadal' & 'roger federer' increased by 187% and 650% respectively over the two weeks of Wimbledon (21/06 to 05/07), however, interest online wasn't entirely focused on the performance of the two sportsmen. There was a lot of interest in Federer's outfit, with 'roger federers cardigan' and 'where can i buy roger federers cardigan' appearing in the top 20 searches for the Swiss tennis player. Interest in Nadal was mainly concerned with pictures, posters and girlfriends.

According to Hitwise UK, the fastest moving search term last week was 'wimbledon 2008', and searches for the popular tennis star 'ana ivanovic' put the term at number four. The second fastest moving search term was 'anglian water', after news the water supply in Northamptonshire, run by Anglian Water, was contaminated with cryptosporidium. According to Hitwise UK, UK Internet visits to the Official Masters Tournament website tripled last week compared to 2007, as the website reached its highest ever position of #17 in the Sports category. Visits to the website of Justin Rose also peaked last week, as the english golfer reached the top of the leaderboard on Thursday. Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that searches for 'boat race' for the week ending 29 March were up by 12% on last year, as the annual Oxford & Cambridge boat race took place on Saturday. The top website, capturing 75% of searches for 'boat race' was the official website www.theboatrace.org, with visits to the site up 16% on last year.
