UK Internet traffic to Twestival.com, the charity: water festival bringing together Twitter communities globally, has increased 4 fold since its launch on February 5, 2009. For the week ending 07/02/09 over a quarter of all traffic to Twestival came from Twitter with Google UK, YouTube, and Facebook also contributing. Over half of the visitors to the site are under the age of 34 with 31.7% being aged 18-24.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that Youtube moved UK visitors from the Youtube.com URL across to a localised UK URL, uk.youtube.com during the middle of September. Visits to the UK address overtook visits to the main Youtube.com address on Saturday 27th September and the site is now the seventh most visited website in the UK (as of the week ending 18th October).

Recent research from Hitwise UK reveals that since the week ending 6th September there has been a 600% increase in searches for 'old facebook'. This reflects recent changes made to the layout of Facebook a few weeks ago and an increasing desire for the old Facebook layout to return. Many of the recent searches for 'old Facebook' have been 'how to get old facebook back'. Interestingly 1 in 20 searches for 'old facebook' have resulted in people visiting an online petition site, petitiononline.com. From the first week of September Facebook became the number one driver of traffic to the site, accounting for 37% of the upstream traffic after overtaking Google who only account for 11%.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that UK Internet visits to the Facebook Developers website has reached its highest ever level since the website launched. 66% of visits to the site in May were from Facebook, while a further 12% were from the Microsoft search properties, Live.com and MSN UK Search. Facebook was the fourth most visited website in the UK during May, capturing one in every 43 visits.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that ‘facebook’ has overtaken ‘bebo’ to become the most searched for term in the UK. Searches for 'facebook' have increased seven-fold over the last 12 months, while searches for 'bebo' (the previous number one term) have increased by 25% over the same period.

According to Hitwise UK, Internet visits to Twitter.com reached its highest peak last week, increasing by 38% from the week before. The increase in traffic was driven by Sport Relief with one in four visits to Twitter coming from the Sport Relief website. Updates about Alan Shearer & Adrian Chiles' fund-raising Newcastle to London bike ride were fed through a page specially put on the site. Twitter was the number one downstream site from Sport Relief during the same week.

Facebook reached its highest ever ranking over the Christmas period, according to Hitwise UK. The social network was the third most visited website on the 25th December, overtaking Ebay for the first time . Bebo ranked fifth and Myspace ninth.

According to Hitwise UK, Facebook has become the fourth most visited URL in the UK for the month of October 2007, by market share of visits and third largest URL by share of page impressions.

According to Hitwise UK, Club Penguin ranked as the 3rd most visited Children's website and 4th most visited Game website based on share of UK visits. Site visits have grown 165% in the past year to overtake Habbo, Star Doll and Neopets due to increased visits from MiniClip Games and search.

According to Hitwise UK, searches for Bebo have hit an all-time high with searches on the term "bebo" tripling year-on-year. One in every hundred searches made online is on the term "bebo". According to Hitwise UK, the second highest volume UK Internet search term that included the word "myspace" in the week to 7 April 2007 was "myspace layout". Seven of the top ten search terms (excluding domain searches) driving UK traffic to MySpace related to customising a MySpace profile. Hitwise demographic data reveal that young women in London are the most likely to visit the sites offering custom layouts, including glitter-graphics.com, pimp-my-profile.com and skize.com.
