The latest online statistics on more than 8M Internet users in the UK, 25M worldwide, across 1M websites and over 160 industries.
Following the April 16th launch of Net-a-Porter's newest outlet site for discounted designer fashion, theOutnet.com, traffic to the site increased 800% in a week (w/e 18/04/09 compared to w/e 11/08/09). Within the Apparel and Accessories category, the Outnet moved up the rankings 599 places to #87 during the same period. Looking at the first week of trade (w/e 18/04/09), Google UK (10.1%), Facebook (5.61%), and Net-a-Porter (5.3%), were the top 3 sites receiving traffic from theoutnet.com.

For the second year in a row the number one site receiving traffic from UK searches for 'mothers day' last week was Woodlands Junior School (27.6%), followed by Wikipedia (19.4%) and Marks & Spencer (7.8%). Compared to last year, when searches for 'mothers day' peaked during the actual week of Mothering Sunday, this year the spike occurred one week earlier (w/e 14/03/09), suggesting that people were planning in advance this year. Traffic to the Flowers and Gifts category increased 27% for the week ending 21/03/2009, with 'flowers' being the number one non-branded search term driving traffic to the category.

Following Michael Jackson's announcement last week that he is to play 10 dates at the O2 this summer, searches for the King of Pop increased by 1200%. With fans able to register for presale tickets traffic to www.michaeljackson.com increased 3-fold for the week ending 07/03/09, while ‘michael Jackson tickets’ was the top search term sending traffic to Ticket Exchange websites. With his comeback show predicted by many to make show business history, it comes as no surprise that 'michael jackson' was the 3rd fastest moving search term in the UK last week, behind 'v festival' (#1) and 'dr seuss' (#2 after featuring in a Google Doodle) for the same period.

According to Hitwise UK Internet users in the UK are going crazy for Gogo's Crazy Bones, a game for children, which has had a recent revival in schools in the UK. Searches for 'crazy bones' and the branded 'go go crazy bones' have increased by 133% and 300% respectively from the 29 March to the 26 July. Visits to the US Crazy Bones website have also increased, with the market share of UK visits doubling since the end of March. Amazon UK was the top recipient of searches for 'go go crazy bones' over the four weeks ending 26 July.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that UK Internet visits to the Shopping & Classifieds - Apparel & Accessories category are up by 38% year-on-year, from the 21 July 2007 to the 19 July 2008. Traffic to the category spiked last week as the annual Next summer sale started. Internet visits to Next.co.uk doubled last week and traffic to the site was up 13% on the sale week in 2007.

According to Hitwise UK, the number of searches containing the term 'blu ray' have increased by 165% since June 2007. 'Cloverfield' is currently the most searched for blu ray movie, over the four weeks ending 14 June 2008, and the majority of the remaining Top 10 blu ray movies are action blockbusters such as Transformers, Star Wars and Terminator 2. Panasonic is the most searched for brand of blu ray player in the UK.

According to Hitwise UK, searches for 'mario kart wii' increased by 134% last week, following the release of the racing game by Nintendo. GAME is the top retailer to receive traffic from searches for the term, over the four weeks ending 12 April. The remainder of the top five recipients are information websites such as Wikipedia, YouTube and GameTrailers.

According to Hitwise UK, last week Internet visits to HMV.com were at their highest peak within the Shopping & Classifieds:Music category since Christmas. Visits were 30% higher than the Easter week in 2007. The top album searches sending visits to HMV were 'now 68', 'mash up mix 2008' and 'floorfillers 2008'.

According to Hitwise UK, UK Internet searches for "ugg boots" continue to grow year on year with searches for the perennial favourite 62% higher for the week ending 29th September than the christmas peak during the week ending 16th December 2006. As the weather turned, the increasing searches for "ugg boots" passed the decreasing searches for "crocs" during the week ending 8th September. The top searched for ugg colours were "black", "metallic" and "pink".
