The latest online statistics on more than 8M Internet users in the UK, 25M worldwide, across 1M websites and over 160 industries.
According to Hitwise UK, UK Internet searches for 'sarah palin', the recently announced Republican vice-presidential nominee, were 45% higher last week, than those for the previously most searched-for US nominee 'barack obama'. The top website capturing visits from searches for Palin was Wikipedia (38% of searches), followed by Google News (4.5%).

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that searches for 'tibet' quadrupled this week, as talks about the possibility of boycotting the Beijing Olympics continued. One in three searchers for 'tibet' visited Wikipedia, followed by Google News and a Free Tibet campaign website. Searches for 'dalai lama' also increased significantly last week. Interest is mostly driven by his visit to the UK in May, with searches focused on his teaching engagements in London and Nottingham.

According to Hitwise UK, the Conservative party's website saw a 129% increase in UK Internet visits from the week ending 22nd September to the week ending 6th October after the round of political conferences while Labour saw an increase of 39%.
