Michael Jackson searches increase by 1200%

Following Michael Jackson's announcement last week that he is to play 10 dates at the O2 this summer, searches for the King of Pop increased by 1200%. With fans able to register for presale tickets traffic to www.michaeljackson.com increased 3-fold for the week ending 07/03/09, while ‘michael Jackson tickets’ was the top search term sending traffic to Ticket Exchange websites. With his comeback show predicted by many to make show business history, it comes as no surprise that 'michael jackson' was the 3rd fastest moving search term in the UK last week, behind 'v festival' (#1) and 'dr seuss' (#2 after featuring in a Google Doodle) for the same period.

Spotify traffic up 250% in a month

UK Internet traffic to Spotify.com, the streaming music player offering legal and free access to a huge library of music, has grown 250% in the past 4 weeks. Searches for 'spotify' are also on the rise, increasing 4-fold over the same period. Looking at Experian Mosaic data, the type of people most likely to visit Spotify are from the Urban Intelligence group - defined as “young, single and mostly well-educated people who are cosmopolitan in tastes and liberal in attitudes”.

Silent Assassin- The Amazon MP3 Service to Challenge iTunes

Last week Amazon UK launched its MP3 download service. The service provides MP3 files that are DRM-free which means they are unrestricted for transferring and playing on different devices including iPods and iTunes. It is interesting to see that even without a press release for the launch of Amazon MP3, searches for ‘amazon mp3’ have increased 17 fold over the last week. Within all searches containing the term ‘mp3’, searches for ‘amazon mp3’ shot up to the second most searched for MP3 term behind ‘mp3 players’ for the week ending 6th December.

Paperticket.co.uk closes down

Recent research from Hitwise UK reveals that the number of visits to paperticket.co.uk, recently closed down on suspicion of fraud, have increased 24x over the last 6 weeks. Looking at search terms driving traffic to the site shows that 87% of their search traffic was from paid search. They were paying for the names of current bands and artists, the most popular ones driving traffic to the site are AC/DC, The Killers and Kings of Leon. Consumers who had purchased from the site are being advised to contact a government advice site consumerdirect.gov.uk, which was the most popular website visited after paperticket.co.uk on the 20/10/08.

Oasis number one website in Bands & Artists.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that visits to the official website for British band Oasis, www.oasisinet.com, increased four-fold, over the two weeks from the 9th August to the 23rd August, as tickets sold out for the band's recently announced tour. The website was number one in the Bands & Artists category last week followed by Metallica's official website, www.metallica.com, as the band released the first song from their upcoming album.

Visits to Katy Perry's website increase eight-fold.

According to Hitwise UK, visits to the website for Katy Perry, singer of 'i kissed a girl', have increased eight-fold over the last four weeks (to 9 August), and the website ranked at #20 within the Bands & Artists category up from #56 the week before. As well as traffic from Google, the main drivers of visits to Perry's website were BBC Radio 1, Youtube and MySpace.

46664.com fourth most visited site in Bands & Artists

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that searches for 'nelson mandela', ahead of the 46664 concert celebrating the former South African president's 90th birthday, increased eight-fold during the week ending 28 June. 46% of searches for 'nelson mandela' visited Wikipedia and the official website for the ANC was second. The 46664 concert website was the fourth most visited website in the Hitwise category Music-Bands & Artists last week.

Searches for 'coldplay' skyrocket

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that searches for 'coldplay' increased 15-fold during the week ending 31 May from the week before, as the band launched a new album and announced a world tour. The band's official website www.coldplay.com was the second most visited website in the Music-Bands & Artists category last week, and 45% of downstream visits were to a ticketing website.

Interest in Eurovision online lower than previous years

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that UK Internet visits to Eurovision.tv, the official homepage of the Eurovision song contest, were down by 25% compared to last year. Searches for 'eurovision' were also lower than previous years, down by 29%. The top site visited after Eurovision.tv was the download shop for the songs featured in the competition. One-third of visits were from the London and South West regions, with a majority of visitors to the website under the age of 45.

One in seven visits to online radio websites are to BBC Radio One

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that one in seven visits to online radio websites last week were to BBC Radio One. Searches for the station's annual music festival, 'radio 1 big weekend' were almost triple the number of searches in 2007, as registrations for tickets opened last week. Searches for 'maidstone kent', the venue for this year's festival, also spiked last week.

US Searches for 'leona lewis' increase by 90%

US Internet searches for 'leona lewis' continue to rise as the British popstar topped the US Charts this week. Searches have increased by 90% over the four weeks ending 22 March. Youtube is the top website receiving visits from searches for the X-Factor winner, followed by Myspace and Wikipedia.

HMV.com visits highest peak since Christmas

According to Hitwise UK, last week Internet visits to HMV.com were at their highest peak within the Shopping & Classifieds:Music category since Christmas. Visits were 30% higher than the Easter week in 2007. The top album searches sending visits to HMV were 'now 68', 'mash up mix 2008' and 'floorfillers 2008'.

Mark Ronson's website hits highest ever peak yesterday

According to Hitwise UK, Internet visits to Mark Ronson's website hit its highest ever peak yesterday to reach #17 within the Music - Bands & Artists category, as the producer won the Best British Male award at the Brits last night. The top three downstream visits from the site were Myspace, Wikipedia and the Myspace Blog page.

Searches for "download festival" double

As tickets for the annual rock festival Download went on sale this week, Hitwise UK data shows searches for "download festival" were double the percentage of searches for the same period in 2007. Visits to Kissonline.com, the official website of the festival's headlining band Kiss, hit the highest ever peak over the last 3 years and ranked at #30 in the Bands and Artists category.

Sun reaches number one thanks to Amy Winehouse video

The Sun (www.thesun.co.uk) was the most visited News and Media – Print website in the UK yesterday (22 January 2008) for the first time since Christmas Eve (24 December 2007). The newspaper’s website hosted an exclusive video of pop star Amy Winehouse allegedly taking illegal drugs, including crack cocaine and ecstasy.

Bon Jovi site #3 as Lost Highway tickets on sale

According to Hitwise UK, Internet visits to the official Bon Jovi website increased by 182% last week, as tickets went on sale for the Lost Highway Tour and was the 3rd most visited website in the Bands & Artisits category. One in four visits after the website were to a Ticketmaster site. Now You Know.
