The latest online statistics on more than 8M Internet users in the UK, 25M worldwide, across 1M websites and over 160 industries.
Last week the top five fastest moving search terms amongst All Categories were: 'susan boyle', 'britains got talent', 'hillsborough disaster', 'hells kitchen', and 'guido fawkes'. After Susan Boyle’s recent break-through performance on Britains Got Talent, the clip of her singing has notched up almost 50 million views on YouTube and the search term 'susan boyles' was the top non-branded term driving traffic to YouTube last week. Her success has also been noted in the US with 'susan boyle' being the number one fastest moving search term overall for the same period.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that interest in Big Brother this year online, is down significantly on previous years. Internet visits to Channel 4's official Big Brother website were 29% lower at its highest point during the week ending 05/07/08, compared to the highest week in 2007, and 58% lower than the highest point in 2006.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that people are more interested in this year's Britains Got Talent winner, 14 year old George Sampson, than last year's winner, opera singer Paul Potts. Searches for 'george sampson' were four and a half times higher than searches during last years show for 'paul potts'. One third of searches for 'george sampson' went to Bebo over the four weeks ending 14 June, as people viewed fan pages dedicated to the young dancer.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows that UK Internet visits to Eurovision.tv, the official homepage of the Eurovision song contest, were down by 25% compared to last year. Searches for 'eurovision' were also lower than previous years, down by 29%. The top site visited after Eurovision.tv was the download shop for the songs featured in the competition. One-third of visits were from the London and South West regions, with a majority of visitors to the website under the age of 45.

Recent research from Hitwise UK revealed searches for Sky One’s revival of ‘Gladiators’ have increased by 445% since the beginning of April. A fan site dedicated to the show captured over half of all searches for ‘gladiators' over the four weeks ending 10th May. Visits to Gladiators’ official website peaked on Friday 9th May, as fans clamoured for information prior to the show’s premiere on Sunday 11th May.

Recent research from Hitwise UK shows searches for 'freesat' increased by 21% last week, prior to the launch of the BBC and ITV free satellite TV offering. Visits to freesat.co.uk increased eleven-fold on Tuesday as the service was launched. Searches for 'freesat bbc' and 'freesat from sky' also increased last week.

Recent research from Hitwise UK revealed searches for BAFTA winning show 'Gavin and Stacey' have increased 17-fold since the beginning of the year. A fan site dedicated to the show captured just under half of all searches for 'gavin and stacey', over the four weeks ending 19th April. Top variations on searches for the British show are related to the cast, music, theme tune and quotes.

According to Hitwise UK, UK Internet visits to the Official Masters Tournament website tripled last week compared to 2007, as the website reached its highest ever position of #17 in the Sports category. Visits to the website of Justin Rose also peaked last week, as the english golfer reached the top of the leaderboard on Thursday. The most searched for brands of golf clubs were 'ping golf clubs' and 'taylor made golf clubs', with the latter seeing the largest increase in searches last week.

According to Hitwise UK, Internet visits to the BBC website for the TV show, The Apprentice, were at their highest ever level for the opening week of the fourth series. Visits to the site were the same last week as the biggest week during the 2007 season. The most searched for Apprentice wannabee last week was 'nicholas de lacy-brown' followed by 'alex wotherspoon' and 'raef bjayou'.

UK Internet visits to the BBC iPlayer website peaked to their highest ever daily level on the 1st of April, as viewers flocked to the site to watch an April Fool's Day joke about Flying Penguins. The video was first reported on The Telegraph website, and visits to iPlayer from The Telegraph increased four-fold compared with the previous day. People also encouraged others to view the mini-documentary, with visits from social networking websites and web-based email to the iPlayer website, increasing by 140% and 40% respectively yesterday.

Recent research from Hitwise UK reveals Suzanne Shaw is the most searched-for Dancing on Ice star still in the running. UK Internet searches for 'suzanne shaw' overtook searches for second most popular 'chris fountain' during the week ending 1st March and are now double the number of searches for the Hollyoaks star and 10 times higher than those for latecomer Zaraah Abrahams. Searches are not related to her ice-skating ability however with the most popular variations last week, 'suzanne shaw strips' and 'suzanne shaw pics'.

Of the top 30 'who is' queries typed into a search engine over the last four weeks, two-thirds of the queries were for The Stig from the BBC’s Top Gear, Hitwise data reveals. The most popular names associated with The Stig online are Ben Collins, Perry McCarthy and Damon Hill.
