On the 13th January the 1911 Census went online and became available to the public via 1911census.co.uk. The Census contains the records of 36 million people making it a very valuable family history resource. Hitwise UK can reveal that there has been great interest in the 1911 Census. Visits to the National Archive website doubled but visits to the 1911 census site increased by 83 times from the 10th January, proving the widespread popularity of family history.
‘1911 census’ was also the fastest moving search term for the week ending 17th January and there were 5 other census related searches in the top 15 fast movers. Interestingly 3 other family history sites were in the top 20 websites receiving traffic from searches for ‘1911 census’, Genes Reunited, FindMyPast.com, and Ancestry.co.uk.
