Facebook Catches Up to Bebo in New Zealand

Over the past 12 months, New Zealand visits to Facebook have skyrocketed, catching up to local social network leader Bebo. According to Hitwise New Zealand, for the week ending February 16, 2008, Facebook captured 16.01% of visits to Social Networking websites, just behind Bebo, which enjoyed a 17.63% market share. Perfspot Gets Popular in Hong Kong

The top 3 Social Networking and Forums websites visited by Hong Kong Internet users during the week ending 12/01/2008 were YouTube (www.youtube.com), Facebook (www.facebook.com) and Xanga (www.xanga.com). However, social networking website Perfspot (www.perfspot.com) was a fast mover that week, moving up 10 places from 26th to become the 16th most popular website in this industry. The website has increased its weekly market share of traffic by 1490% between the weeks ending 01/12/2007 and 12/01/2008. Yahoo! Hong Kong and Social Networking Sites receive highest percentage of external visits from Google HK

For the week ending August 28 2007, Hitwise Hong Kong reveals that aside from other Google properties, Google Hong Kong sent the largest percentage of visits to Yahoo! Hong Kong, who captured 3.56% of Google Hong Kong's downstream traffic, followed by online forum and web 2.0 sites discuss.com.hk (1.91%), YouTube (1.84%) Wikipedia (1.41%), Uwants (1.36%) and Xanga (1.11%).

Finding Friends Online

According to Hitwise New Zealand, market share of internet visits to Friendster (www.friendster.com) increased by 30% between 28 July and 11 August 2007 in the ‘Computers and Internet’ industry. Yahoo! Mail (10.33%) referred the largest percentage of traffic to Friendster, followed by Google New Zealand (7.70%) and GMail (7.10%).

Social Networking Sites Stay Strong

Hitwise Australia reports that the social networking website Bebo has experienced a market share increase of more than 240% in the Net Communities and Chat industry over the past 15 months. As of June 2007 www.bebo.com has 6.03% share of the industry’s market, compared to 1.76% in April 2006. Facebook (www.facebook.com) has also climbed in market share, with 2.96% at the end of June 2007 compared to 0.069% in April 2006, however Myspace (www.myspace.com) still dominates the industry with 29.88% market share.

Facebook increasingly popular in New Zealand

According to Hitwise New Zealand, Facebook is continuing to become increasingly popular among New Zealanders, increasing . Hitwise Clickstream data suggests that the Facebook network for the University of Auckland (aucklandac.facebook.com) was the most popular Facebook network visited by New Zealanders, holding 3.17% of the downstream traffic for week ending June 30, 2007.

Xanga Second Most Visited Website in Hong Kong

According to Hitwise Hong Kong, net community and blogging website, Xanga was the second most visited website by Hong Kong Internet users between August 2006 and March 2007. Xanga accounted for 2.69% of visits to all websites for the week ending 7 April 2007, following only Yahoo! Hong Kong with 7.35% of traffic. Now you know.
