According to Hitwise, Barack Obama (www.barackobama.com), the campaign website of president elect Barack Obama, was ranked 2nd in the Lifestyle – Politics industry for the 21/01/2009 and experienced a 72.82% market share increase from the 20/01/2009.

The top three downstream websites to receive traffic from the Barack Obama website for the 21/01/2009, were Facebook, Wikipedia and MySpace.

Interestingly, the search term variations for ‘barack obama’ for the four week period ending 17/01/2009 included: ‘barack obama inauguration’, ‘barack obama acceptance speech’ and ‘barack obama shirtless’. Now you know.

Betting on the election more popular than betting on Australian Idol

A Hitwise Australia search term suggestion report on the term ‘betting’ indicates that ‘election betting’ was the 5th most popular variation (out of 1586 terms), while ‘australian idol betting’ ranked at #13 for the 4 weeks ending 17 November 2007. To give some indication of the willingness of users to take a punt, a search variation report on ‘election’ shows that users were more likely to search for ‘election betting’ at #14 than ‘federal election date’ at #15 and ‘election promises’ at #26 out of over 7,000 search terms. Australian Internet users know their APEC from their OPEC

According to Hitwise, www.opec.org's ranking peaked at 14,001 in All Categories, based on Australian Internet usage, on Friday 7th September, 2007; the day that President Bush thanked John Howard "for being such a fine host for the OPEC summit". On the other hand, www.apec2007.org ranked at 820 on Friday 7th September, 2007 - just below its highest rank of 592 experienced on Sunday 2nd September, 2007.

The top websites in the category include ‘The Truth Laid Bear’ (www.truthlaidbear.com), ‘No Right Turn’ (norightturn.blogspot.com) and ‘frogblog’ (blog.greens.org.nz).
