Although the World Health Organisation has changed its reference from ‘swine flu virus’ to ‘influenza A (H1N1)’ in order to lessen the negative impact on pork sales, it may be too late online. According to Hitwise New Zealand, ‘swine flu’ was the fastest moving search term across All Categories for the week ending 02/05/2009. The top two downstream websites receiving traffic from the term were Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.org) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov), for the 12 weeks ending 02/05/2009.
