Photo-sharing website, Slide.com grew by 228% between 5 May 2007 and 22 September 2007, overtaking Flickr during the week ending 8 September 2007 in the New Zealand market. Slide.com ranked at second position in the Hitwise Entertainment - Photography industry closely behind Photobucket with respective shares of 14.44% and 15.5% for the week ending 22 September 2007. Flickr followed at third position with 13.73% market share.
Slide.com offers a variety of media-sharing widgets including Slideshows, Guestbooks, SkinFlix and FunPix that may be embedded in social networking and blog platforms. Hitwise Clickstream data confirms that social networking websites are driving the bulk of traffic to Slide.com, with Facebook accounting for 59.18% upstream share, and Bebo with 21.86% share for the week ending 22 September 2007.
This parallels an increasing trend of third-party widgets in social networking websites driving traffic to online commercial industries. An example includes TripAdvisor, which received 14.81% upstream traffic from Facebook in August 2007, due to an application in Facebook that allows users to share their travel experiences.
Despite the recent increase in visits to Slide.com, Hitwise data indicates that users engage with Flickr for longer periods online. The average visit time for Slide.com was 6 minutes 40 seconds for the week ending 22 September 2007, compared to 9 minutes 39 seconds for Flickr. Photobucket attracted an average visit time of 8 minutes 9 seconds.
