Hitwise search term data also indicated user interest in government and non-occupation specific positions. Popular generic variations on 'jobs' in the top 20 included, 'government jobs', 'part time jobs', 'defence jobs', 'mining jobs in australia' and 'casual jobs'. Job searches related to geography included, 'jobs nsw', 'jobs in melbourne','jobs australia', 'jobs in sydney' and 'jobs in dubai'. For publishers targeting prospective employees, applying a broad keyword pay-per-click strategy in SEM is necessary for capturing the immense variation of search terms.

Leading Employment Publishers

In the Hitwise Business and Finance - Employment & Training industry, Seek Australia held the leading position, accounting for 1 in 4 visits during June 2007. MyCareer and CareerOne followed with 8.48% and 7.82% share respectively. Employment social networking website, LinkedIn, ranked at 11th position, enjoyed a 288% increase comparing June 2006 and June 2007. Given the strong uptake of social networking websites by Australian users, it will be increasingly important for recruiters to tap into established user-networks online.

Who's Visiting Employment Websites

Hitwise Lifestyle data indicates that the Business and Finance - Employment & Training industry receives a high representation of users from two distinct groups. Users in Fashionably Wired, who are young affluent singles and sharers enjoying city life, were indexed at 145.5 in this industry, for the 12 weeks ending 21 July 2007. The Subsistence Existence group, who are comprised of financially frustrated families and singles in urban areas, had the highest index of 177.6. Google Australia received the highest volume of visits from both of these groups, underpinning the opportunity for government and corporate employers to market to these users directly through search engine marketing.

The increase with 476% shows that more and more people are doing organic search with the keyword "Mining jobs". Does that mean all the traffic for mining jobs comes to hitwise?
