Following on from Heather's post on Top UK Search Terms in 2006, I thought I'd provide the Singapore perspective to indicate regional differences in search.
'Yahoo' was the most searched-for term in 2006 reflecting its dominance as a portal amongst Singapore Internet users, while Friendster retained its loyal following in Singapore despite the global popularity of MySpace.
Prominent searches for 'cpf' represented the widespread use of the Singapore Government's Central Provident Fund Board website for retirement savings. Searches for 'ebay' topped the Shopping & Classifieds category followed by 'ikea' and 'hp' reflecting the strength of brand searches in online retail. Travel searches were dominated by 'street directory', denoting the popular travel guide for Asia Pacific, followed by national carrier 'singapore airlines'.
