Singapore Boy's Brigade Sharity Gift Box

December 22, 2006

In my final post for 2006 I thought I'd make an online salute to the Singapore Boy's Brigade Sharity Gift Box, which has risen to the top Community - Humanitarian website visited by Singapore Internet users for the week ending December 16, 2006. The charity is an annual event that mobilizes the Boy's Brigade and volunteers to collect gifts from thousands of Singaporeans for distribution to the needy in Singapore. You'll observe in the below chart that online visits to the project have far superseded the previous two years, where the Sharity Gift Box now accounts for 9.52% of visits to humanitarian websites.

According to Hitwise Clickstream data, a key factor in the sharp increase of visits to the Sharity Gift Box were referrals from Yahoo! Search Singapore and the Yahoo! Mail Singapore service, which between them accounted for 25% of upstream visits. The partnership with Yahoo! Singapore appears to have been effective in raising the profile of the charity project online. Another interesting feature of the Sharity Gift Box is their blog which potentially gets more users involved in gift-giving. There is certainly room for other humanitarian organisations to adopt weblogs to garner further support from the online community. Merry Christmas all!
