Socceroos Stuff History
Visits to the Sports - Soccer category reached a daily peak on June 13th over a 3-month period, accounting for almost 1% of all Australian Internet activity, the day after the momentous Socceroos victory against Japan in the FIFA World Cup.
Searches for 'socceroos' also spiked dramatically, reaching a 3-month peak, week ending June 10, 2006. The Football Federation website received the most traffic on this term with 29.7% of traffic. Listings from the Google news service also enjoyed traffic from the term, 'socceroos', with Google News Australia receiving 10.4% of traffic.
Nike's TV campaign, "Stuff History" has successfully driven website traffic to the Nike Football Australia website. Stuff History which allows users to post comments to support the Socceroos against unfavourable odds, contributed 72.7% of upstream traffic to Nike Football for May 2006.
Hitwise Demographics data indicate that soccer remains a blokes' sport, with male Internet users accounting for 69.2% of visits to the Sports - Soccer category for the week ending June 10, 2006.
