HipHopNZ.com on same note as My Space Music
HipHopNZ.com, a portal for the Aotearoa / New Zealand hip-hop music scene has strengthened its position as the Top local Music website as visited by New Zealand Internet users, increasing its market share by 15.7% within a week to November 19, 2005, and enjoying a yearly growth rate of 81.9%.
HipHopNZ.com closely trailed MySpace Music in the all sites Music category in October 2005, with market shares of 1.2% and 1.8% respectively. News Corp acquired MySpace.com through its purchase of Intermix for a hefty $580m in July this year, indicative of the shift of advertising dollars from traditional media to online. HipHopNZ.com in this landscape, albeit at a local NZ level, offers significant opportunities for music retail affiliates.
HipHopNZ.com has performed successfully on a number of online metrics as measured by Hitwise data. It has consistently ranked within the top 3 local music websites since January 2005. The average visit time to the website for October 2005 was 15 minutes - considerably higher than the all sites average of 8 minutes. Clickstream industry data showed that HipHopNZ.com sent a significant amount of downstream traffic to Retail websites (10%).
