Wii Music to be the next Wii Fit?

November 21, 2008

Wii Music, the recently launched music making game for the Nintendo Wii, has already raced into a battle with our list of top 10 games from October. This is extremely impressive as the game was only released in the UK on 14th November, and the cut off point for this set of weekly data was 15th November! The game itself utilises the Wii Balance Board, synonymous with Wii Fit, to play the drums, so we’d expect the already heavily searched for accessory to be in greater demand in the run up to Christmas.

The game’s top search term ‘wii music’ has now surged above the top terms for ‘fable 2’, ‘far cry 2’, ‘saints row 2’, and ‘pes 2009’, four of our top games in October and at this pre-launch rate, like Nintendo, we'd expect searches for it to persist, and not drop off as quickly as the other new launches you can see in the chart.

It is too early to say whether it can ever challenge Wii Fit as the most searched for gadget, but we will continue to monitor it here on the blog, and will update its progress next week in our Video Games webinar on Tuesday 25th November at 12:00 noon UK time, hosted by Hitwise Client Intelligence Analyst Richard Seymour.
This webinar will also cover:
• Insights learned from last Christmas in the Video Game industry.
• The most searched-for consoles, games and accessories this Christmas
• How video games retailers and content providers can improve their online presence
