« Credit crunch dominates fast moving search terms | Impact of the T-mobile G1 (google phone) launch »
UK Internet searches for ski holidays started to take off at the start of September and, if historical activity is anything to go by, they will continue increasing until Christmas, before gradually declining into virtual hibernation by April.

One of the trends that we have noticed in the ski market over the last couple of years is the increase in searches for specific resorts. To monitor this behaviour we created a search term portfolio containing the names of nearly 400 resorts around the world. As you can see from the chart below, UK Internet searches for this portfolio of terms almost doubled between the 06/07 and the 07/08 seasons.

If you wanted to know which are currently the most popular, here is a list of the 10 most searched for resorts for the 4 weeks ending 13/09/08:
1. Chamonix
2. Alta
3. Whistler
4. Morzine
5. Blue Mountain
6. Banff
7. Zermatt
8. Glencoe
9. Les Gets
10. Val Thorens

Interesting info for the ski season!
Re: your list of the 10 most searched for resorts - I'm assuming the date range you're referring to is actually 13/09/08, not 13/09/07 as reported?

Hi Paul, Yes the date should read 13/09/08. This has now been updated.
Thanks,

Surprised to see Alta so high in the list. Possibly people searching for "Alta Vista" or other non-ski terms?
Les Gets also surprisingly high. I'd have thought some of the glacial resorts might feature higher at this time of year, with Zermatt the only resort with a glaciar in the list I think.
