« Facebook poppy appeal | High street retailers overtake pure-play retailers online »
The annual battle for Saturday tea time supremacy between ITV’s The X-Factor and the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing is well under way. It seems that the Bruce Forsythe fronted show has the edge when it comes to TV ratings, but the Internet is a different beast. As the chart below illustrates, Simon Cowell and co. currently have the upper hand online.

Louie Walsh has claimed that Strictly Come Dancing is for ‘grannies who have lost the remote control down the back of the sofa and can't get up to change channel’, and it looks like there might be a grain of truth in his sour grapes. The chart below provides evidence to back his claims, as well as an explanation for the success of the X-Factor website: most of its visitors are under 44, whereas the largest group of visitors to the Strictly Come Dancing site are the over 55s.

While we’re on the topic, last year Bill successfully predicted the result of Strictly Come Dancing using his famous Stacey Keibler Correction Coefficient. I’ll be trying my luck at the same thing this year for both shows, but as it’s my first time I’ll wait for the field to narrow a bit first.
