We’ll be presenting a property webinar tomorrow that will expand on our recent analysis of searches for overseas properties. Today I wanted to share some additional property-related findings to whet your appetite for the webinar.
The table below illustrates the most popular UK search term suggestions for 'flats', 'houses' and 'property' over the last 12 weeks. The first thing that jumps out is the number of terms in each category: there were more searches for 'property' than 'houses' and 'flats' combined. In addition, there were 4 times as many searches containing 'houses' than 'flats'. Seven of the top 10 'flats' searches were for rentals, compared to 3 for 'houses' (highlighted with red text).

There are also noticeable differences in the type of things people are searching for when using each of the three terms. For example, people searching for 'property' are more likely to use branded terms (highlighted in blue) or be looking for news and information. One the other hand, people searching for 'houses' are more likely to be looking to purchase abroad (highlighted in pink), while people searching for 'flats' are more likely to be looking within a particular part of the UK (highlighted in green).
Whilst we're on the topic of property, here's our analysis of the Northern Rock fallout.
Finally, if you're interested in the the webinar you can sign up here.
