Search Term Pairs: Sandals and Boots
In thinking about Bill's Search Term Pairs concept, I decided to try "sandals" and "boots" to see if there was a seasonal trend. By adding polynomial trendlines to the chart below, a clear seasonal trend emerges in searches for those terms. There are few interesting things about this chart: I was surprised that searches on "sandals" spiked the first week in January - my guess is that folks were planning for winter vacations. "Sandals" overtook "boots" in early March, most likely from Spring break vacationers. In both 2004 and 2005, "boots" surpassed "sandals" in the month of August, as fall approaches and wardrobes are updated. Another example of search term seasonality, and how searchers don't always act as you might expect.
