Search Engine Share Stats from BBC Interview
This morning (very early this morning) I was interviewed on BBC TV for the World Business Report about Yahoo!'s earnings announcement. I wanted to share the updated search stats I pulled for the interview here and share some of my comments.
First, the updated search engine share stats for the UK:

The last time I updated the figures was for SES London in February. Since then, Google has gained 2%, up from 77.77% to 79.38% of the UK search market.
The issue we discussed this morning was whether Yahoo!'s earning's announcement today will be positive. Whilst it remains to be seen, many indications are that it will be good. Panama has launched in the US and so Yahoo! now has the platform to make more money from its search results. The challenge is to grow its share of the audience. The announcement yesterday that Yahoo! will be partnering (registration required) with several US newspaper groups contributes to this goal. Also, as you can see from the above table, year on year, Yahoo!'s share of the UK search market has increased 4%.
For US search engine share figures, refer to the news release we issued last week.

Hi Heather,
Good stats!
Not sure how the MSN figures stack up:
In Feb, MSN + Live matches up to the individual figures, but not in April?
Thanks

David, Thanks for catching that! I didn't update the MSN Search figures in the original table. They are now fixed.
Thanks again, Heather

Although Yahoo! tried to put a postive spin on it, the market certainly didn't seem to weclome the results - a case of people expecting too much perhaps?

"Also, as you can see from the above table, year on year, Yahoos share of the UK search market has increased 4%"
This appears to be mistake. Is it a typo? Google has increased it share by over 4% according to the stats provided in the table.

I think that your comment might be due to the difference between calculating the swing (i.e. one number subtracted from the other) versus the percentage difference. Google has seen a 5% increase in its share of searches and Yahoo! Search a 4% increase. This is calculated as the percentage change from 7.44% to 7.72%. The formula I use (and that is fairly typical for this sort of calculation) is =(7.72-7.44)/7.44*100. The result is 3.76, which rounds to 4.
Hope that clarifies.
Thanks, Heather

Nice information about the search engines searching share, really google capture lots of the part of the search. so we needs to consider only google for the search engine placement, becasue if we get success to get good ranking in the google then we are good in our business
