Search Landscape in the UK Post 1 of 2
Yesterday we published a news release with an update on the share of searches powered by the leading search engines and some analysis of paid and organic traffic going to some leading websites in the UK. These stats are taken from our search report, published last week. If you are interested in a copy of the full report, leave us a comment on this blog or drop us an email.
I'll share some of the top line stats in two posts on the blog. First the search landscape figures:

- Google powered 78% of UK internet searches in the four weeks to 21st October 2006, up 9% year on year.
- Yahoo! took the #2 rank based on share of executed UK searches with 7.7% of the search market.
- Together Google, Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.com powered 96.6% of all UK internet searches, up 2% year on year.
We can also measure this a different way - as the share of referrals from search engines to key e-commerce categories. The following chart shows the share of upstream visits to Travel Agencies, Appliances & Electronics and Insurance websites from search engines. In the week to 21st October 2006 Travel Agencies received 39% of their upstream vistis from search engines, up 7% in the past six months. For such an established category, that is a huge gain. You can see that the gain is not limited to Travel Agencies.

I'll post a follow up tomorrow that shows the share of paid traffic going to leading websites in the Travel Agencies and Appliances and Electronics category.
