Borat Searches Soar - But Borat Could Do With Some SEO Help
With the new Borat movie out tomorrow in the UK, I couldn't resist a quick post... Share of UK internet searches for "borat" increased more than two and a half times last week compared with the previous week. The share of UK internet visits to the Unofficial Borat Homepage trebled last week. Whilst the official Borat website (www.borat.tv) has also experienced strong growth - it fell behind the Unofficial Borat Homepage in share of UK internet visits last week.
It seems that Borat may be able to use some help with search engine optimisation. The official Borat website (www.borat.tv) received only 17% of searches for "borat" in the past four week, whilst the Unoffficial Borat Homepage received 32%. Today, when I searched on Google UK, Borat.tv showed up in the #6 position in the organic listings, whilst the Unofficial Borat Homepage showed up #1.
Also worth noting that those old fashioned (90's) annoying flashing icons still attract our attention with 20% of downstream visits from Borat's website going to MySpace last week. I must admit though that I too found the hideous invitation (which reads "Please be by frend on the MYSPACES!!!") irresitable) and added Borat as my friend. Links to Amazon to purchase past Ali G shows and to YouTube for Borat on MTV also proved popular last week as the #2 and #3 downstream sites from Borat.tv.

Jannie, our UK Marketing Director, just pointed out that searches for "kazakhstan" shot up last week - up four times over the previous week. Could Borat be good for Khazakhstan tourism?
