Pink is the New Black - Motorola Razr Pink & Pink Nintendo DS

My 18 year old cousin came to stay with me for a shopping weekend in London recently. We all know that the younger generation is the window to current trends and Katie is no exception. Katie was desperate for a pink razr phone and it seems that Katie is, as usual, at the forefront of the trend.
I ran a Hitwise Search Term Suggestion report and found that after 'motorola razr', 'motorola razr pink' is the most popular UK search term that includes the keyword 'razr'. In fact 7 of the top 10 and 13 of the top 20 terms that include the keyword 'razr' also include the word 'pink'. Carphone Warehouse is apparently the exclusive retailer for the phones in the UK, however www.carphonewarehouse.com only received 21% of visits from the term in the four weeks ending 26 November 2005.
Seems that Motorola is not the only company to cotton on to the fact that young women love pink - and love gadgets. 4 of the top 20 terms that include the keyword 'ipod mini' also include the word 'pink'. The only other colour preference among the top twenty search terms for 'ipod mini' was 'ipod mini blue' which eked in at #20. With the iPod Mini being replaced by the sleek white or black Nano, I can't help but wonder whether iPod might be losing out on a prime market.
I mentioned in a post last week that searches shot up recently for the Nintendo DS. The third most searched for term that includes the words 'nintendo ds' is 'nintendo ds pink'. The only other colour specific search among the top 20 is for 'nintendo ds blue' at #14.
It may, or may not, be a relief to know that 'pink floyd' is the top search term that includes the work 'pink'. The table below provides the top ten terms that included the keyword 'pink' in the past four weeks.

I have the pink Nintendo DS , the pink Sony Ericsson Z520i phone and I used to have the pink iPod Mini but now I have the white iPod Nano.

Many thanks for such an insightful article! Just a small correction, the Carphone Warehouse is NOT the exclusive UK retailer for the Pink RAZR phone. We at Mobile Fun have the Motorola Pink RAZR Video Edition in stock and ready for delivery as well.
