Searches aid offline purchases

December 16, 2009

Shoppers have plenty of gift buying left to do this season according to a survey released by the NRF which found that the average shopper had completed 46.7 percent of their holiday shopping by the second week of December, down 47.1 percent completed by this time last year. With just over two weeks left in the holiday season, consumers continue to start offline shopping trips while online at home. Last week, searches for store locators and printable coupons reached the second highest peak since the week of Thanksgiving and Black Friday. For the week ending Dec. 12, 2009, searches for a portfolio of terms related to printable coupons and store locators increased 61% and 77%, respectively, year-over-year.

Searches for ‘walmart store locator’ were the most popular among the portfolio of store locator terms last week and received 4.6x more clicks than the 2nd ranked term ‘marshalls store locator’. Staples, Target and Toys R Us followed in terms of the top 5 store locators being searched for the week ending Dec. 12, 2009.

Searches for the generic term ‘printable coupon’ was the most common among the search terms in the printable coupon portfolio and were primarily driving traffic to coupon aggregator websites like Coupons.com and Coupon Cabin. Six retail brands were among the top ten and searches for coupons from Kohl’s and Old Navy received the highest share of clicks.

I personally like RetailMeNot because of the great deals and discounts you can find on this site. I also used Kind Coupons because it is a great similar site and they also gives back to charities.
