Hot Products for 2009

December 10, 2009

Everyone is aware by now about the season’s hottest toy, Zhu Zhu Pets, especially after the brief scare regarding Mr. Squiggles toxicity (he has been fully exonerated). This year's other runaway hit and hard to find item is the Mindflex game which features a maze where you levitate a ball using your mind (definitely check this one out). Other products that have topped the fast moving search terms for the Retail 500 for the 4 weeks ending Dec. 5, 2009 as compared to the same time frame last year are the iPod Touch, Pillow Pets and the Nook from Barnes and Noble. Each of the search terms that topped the list were new keywords this year, showing lots of interest from consumers for new products as well as updated versions. For example, demand is high for leg toning walking shoes, like Skechers Shape Ups and Reebok Easy Tone, a trend initially started by MBT and FitFlops.

Video game consoles, and of course, the accompanying games are always a popular gift. Last week, which included Cyber Monday, the fastest growing new search terms to the Video and Games category were for NBA 2K10, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Scribblenauts. . The new Nintendo DSI console also made the top ten along with refurbished XBox 360s.

Stay tuned for more hot products throughout the season and we’ll see which ones might be next for the ‘out of stock’ sign.

Looks like 2010 will not be too much different in terms of old school toys. Zhu Zhu still hot and Ipad, and Ipod should also be pretty high on the list.
