I also Love Food

August 17, 2007

This week's TIME column is online here, a testament to what happens when you write on an empty stomach! One of the data-points that didn't make it into the article was the regional breakdown of visits to Dunkin Donut's site. This story from CNN peaked my interest. Apparently Proctor and Gamble will be distributing Dunkin Donuts coffee worldwide. I know several relocated East Coasters here in California that bring or request friends to bring DD coffee back from their East Coast trips.

Our regional map gives some clues as to interest in the Dunkin Donuts brand (note there are currently no franchises in California yet it ranks 10th in states sending Internet traffic to the site.

I don't miss the coffee, but I love those chocolate glazed donuts. Always try to get one when I am back in New York.

Bill, noticed your input on an article about me in this week's news. Thanks for the great words!

Since you mention it here, I'm curious about one item in your Time article on food sites:

"Suburbanites are most likely to visit websites for national chain restaurants such as Hard Rock Cafe, Macaroni Grill or P.F. Chang's China Bistro."

From a traffic perspective, I could see this as being true because there's no other real national source of suburban restaurant information. But, in a specific metropolitan area, there might be - Metromix.com in Chicago for example. Does your analysis hold true on a metro-by-metro basis, or do other sites emerge as leaders?
