Mid-term Visits to Politics Category a Fraction of Presidential Election Traffic

November 06, 2006

As we head into mid-term elections this week, the visits to the Lifestyle - Politics category, a collection of 863 sites was nearly 1/3rd less then visits to the same category the Presidential Elections the first week of November 2004.

To add further detail to what is transpiring leading up to Tuesday's elections, we created custom categories of the top conservative and liberal sites and blogs and charted their share of traffic over the last two years.

One of the outstanding tools we have at Hitwise is the ability to view search terms to websites, the 170 industries we track and also to our custom categories. The table below details the top 10 generic terms (I omitted domain names and URLs) driving traffic to the liberal and conservative sites, a great proxy for top of mind issues.

The table above shows a big difference in top-of-mind topics compared to our analysis last month here.
