On Sunday, Steven Levitt, coauthor of Freakonomics and University of Chicago Professor posted a chart that I had sent to him regarding searches on the term Freakonomics v. William Bennett. There appears to be a strong correlation between the two terms, but as Dr. Levitt points out in his posting, causality is not always that easy to identify.
Here's some additional data to get us a little closer to causality...
Below is a clickstream time series chart during the period that searches on Freakonomics spiked. The site driving the greatest percentage of traffic to the Freakonomics site during that time was Media Matters for America. Interestingly, the number one search term driving traffic to Media Matters during that time frame was the term "Bill Bennett" making up 4.51% of all searches to their site.
