Batman is in, Elmo is out

October 03, 2005

Last month we issued a press release that included data on the most searched for Halloween Costumes. This morning I decided to take another look at the data to see what's hot this year versus last year.

Using the Hitwise Search Term Suggestion, I queried on all search terms containing "costume" for the four weeks ending 10/1/05 (we're seeing a total of 8,857 terms containing "costume"). Below are the top 10 costume types and brand names from this year versus last year.

While Elmo has left the top 10 this year, it looks like super heroes and Star Wars figures are top of mind this year (one entry that just missed this years top 10, and my favorite so far, "infant yoda costume")

Bill-

I have been studying your research and would like to know if there is more detailed information regarding the popularity of search phrases in the costume industry for past years.
